Dartmouth calculates GPA to 14 decimal points within Banner and follows standard rounding to two decimal places.
GPA Calculation
The basic GPA calculation is as follows:
(Quality points÷GPA Hours)÷3
Quality points come from the grades:

A- = 11 quality points
B+ = 10 quality points

Example for a cumulative GPA: | Example for a term GPA: |
Quality points: 255 GPA Hours: 30 | Quality points: 30 GPA Hours: 3 |
The calculation is 255/30 = 8.5 | The calculation is 30/3 = 10 |
8.5/3 = 2.83333333333333 | 10/3 = 3.33333333333333 |
GPA = 2.83 | GPA = 3.33 |
Standard Rounding
