Register your children for pickleball clinics at the Severna Park Community Center or The PutAway

Are your kids excited to try pickleball? TGA, a youth sports enrichment brand specializing in tennis, golf, and pickleball, is now in the area! Your kids ages 6-12 can take pickleball lessons at the Severna Park Community Center and The PutAway, the brand new all-pickleball facility, in Millersville.

Matthew Heffernan, the area director, affectionately known as Coach Heff, is passionate about youth sports. He has recently opened up the Severna Park/Arnold territory as Managing Director for TGA.

With a lifelong passion for youth sports, Coach Heff brings a wealth of experience, from founding and directing leagues to coaching first base for his daughter's softball team. At 43, he turned his passion into a dream job, joining TGA as Managing Director for Annapolis and surrounding areas.

CLINICS IN SEVERNA PARK AND MILLERSVILLE

Fall Pickleball classes have begun with single day clinics booking now, for beginners ages 6-12. No equipment required. Just show up with your kids! 

Junior players of all skill levels are invited to join our coach-led clinics to develop core fundamentals and mechanics. Taught in a hyper-focused format (1 to 3 hours in length), our clinics are designed to help players hone and master the fundamental skills of the game.

  • Clinics start at 3:00 PM on Mondays at The PutAway
  • Two sessions for elementary-age beginners at Severna Park Community Center on Mondays at both 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM

INTENTIONAL GIFT GIVING

If your house is like mine, and most people I know with children, there's probably too much STUFF.  I have too many kitchen gadgets and hot sauces, my wife has too many candles, and our kids have toys that they haven't looked at more than twice since they came out of the wrapper.  

We have been working towards an ethos of giving with intention.  We ask ourselves and the people around us to envision the usage of the thing, before gifting.  Legos are a good example. If you picture my son receiving the lego set and running to his room to put it together by himself, you have not met him. He LOVES legos. He loves them because we do them together.  When I give him a gift, I always give him something we can DO, not HAVE.

Experiences make the best intentional gifts, in my opinion. I like to take my wife to concerts, or give my in-laws tickets to a comedy show, or bring my kids to a ballgame. This year, my father-in-law is giving my son his winter sports league membership. If you are looking for something like this, but don't know how to do it, I have a suggestion.  

Consider a gift card from TGA, my youth sports enrichment program focused on Tennis, Golf, and Pickleball. A gift card removes the difficulty of scheduling in advance. It's likely to be an EXPERIENCE because they may have not tried one of our three sports (a lot of kids haven't!), and it won't add to the pile of toys which they will grow out of in a couple years. Starting a sport could become a lifelong pursuit! And speaking of reducing clutter, we provide all the equipment, so there's no upfront gear cost to families!
