From cheerleading for Highland Park Bell team competitions to later participating at varsity competitions as a member of UT’s Silver Spur Sweetheart squad and cheering alongside university mascot Bevo, her athleticism extended beyond traditional sports.

At the University of Texas at Austin, Griffith pursued her artistic passion with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Arts. This field allowed her to hone and explore her aesthetic passions and artistic talents; setting the stage for future creative endeavours.

Artistic Pursuit

After graduating, Griffith undertook an extraordinary journey of personal and professional exploration. She dabbled in several artistic fields – fashion design using vintage clothing as well as bold personal styles in haircuts and colours; foraying into hairdressing with colourful highlights being one such venture – as she attempted each new endeavour with genuine enthusiasm – to leave an indelible mark upon the world.

Creative Exploration

Griffith was not limited to visual expression when it came to her love for art. She held a strong passion for literature, particularly poetry. Griffith engaged with poetry on multiple levels – as reader, writer, admirer – offering comfort and inspiration both herself and readers of her poems. Griffith’s love extended even beyond books by her dedication to calligraphy and printing which showcased her variety of artistic interests.

Griffith was named for her maternal great-grandmother’s family from Terrell, Texas, and proudly adopted their family traditions and character traits with pride. Not only was she known to exhibit their signature feistiness but she was also deeply compassionate toward animals – often going above and beyond to ensure their welfare.

Life presented Griffith with many challenges, such as physical injuries that threatened her active lifestyle. Yet her resilient spirit prevailed; she continued seeking paths that met her needs without being deterred by obstacles – an example of strength and perseverance.

Nurturing Relationships

Griffith was dedicated to cultivating strong, meaningful relationships in her life that she nurtured with care and devotion. Schel Chalfant Mason was not simply her twin sister; they served as confidantes, critics, and friends; their parents Gwynn and Wilson Mason as well as extended family members and close friends all played major roles. These bonds provided strength and joy.

Griffith Anne Mason’s sudden passing on January 10, 2020 in Austin, Texas left an immense hole in our lives. To pay our respects and memorialize her life in some way, her family requested donations be made in lieu of flowers to the Nexus Recovery Center or other charities in her memory; such an act reflects Griffith’s values and compassion in life.
